Sándor Somogyi ceramic artist

Biography

I was born in 1958, Sárospatak/ Hungary and grew up in Budapest. I had an early interest in pottery, enrolled as a mature student at Bokányi Dezső Szakmunkásképző Iskola (Industrial School). Then, certificated in Vági István Anyagipari Szakközépiskola (Craft School) as a Ceramic Technician, and I held my first exhibition.

From the beginning of seventies I started learning ceramic profession and related to it's crafts activities. At first I studied model- and mould making, afterwards ceramic technician qualifications obtained. I used to work at the FIM Kőbányai Porcelángyár, -wich was the one of the bigest porcelain factory in Hungary- I had excellent teachers. I participed in various artistic contents, youth competitions, in wich demonstrated nice results. I am interested in glass, enamel, porcelain, ceramics and of course in arts. I spend much time on drawing and learning embossing techniques. From the begining of eighties I started working in my own studio to design and creat objects of everyday use.

Currently my activity as a ceramic artist freelancer. I have taken active role in many joint projects: architectural ceramic, fountain, ceramic wall pieces. My works can be found in several galeries in Budapest an other rural cities in Hungary.
